Rey Ovitz, a twenty-something teacher, has just moved to the city for fear of stagnation and a desire to understand the world that he’s been given.  Rey yearns to be a hero in a luke-warm world, and does so through a conference of celebration and trepidation in the city in which he has somehow found himself a component.

                                Rey is a person in constant flux, at times concentrating on the actions and words of others to make sense of himself and at other times finding moments of epiphany in the solace of anonymity wrought from living in a large city.  Through relationships with his heavily tattooed bar brawling philosopher friend Tasker/Morris to the absentee love of his young life, Lynn Silencio, a mythic archetype that spurs his personal revolution, Rey learns to make sense of his world by examining it poetically and critically.  While Rey believes his search is personal, he soon finds that it is a result of a tragedy that motivates him to explore his purpose.

                                Into the Everything is written partly through stream-of-consciousness, and partly as a series of motifs and tropes that take on a sort of geometric redundancy, linking the sections of chapters, the chapters themselves, and the novel as a whole.  Rey Ovitz represents the Everyman anxiety, desperate search, and submissive recognition of beauty that largely makes up the experience of life.
